The third of three adjacent existing downtown boulder commercial buildings we have designed structure for major structural modifications and additions, Stella's Cafe was born out of what most Boulderites remember as the Walnut Brewery.  Sharing a common two-story triple-wythe brick wall with the neighboring property to the west (Rosetta Hall) introduced constructability challenges, while the east wall temporarily became a freestanding multistory unreinforced brick wall, between which the team was tasked with constructing a modern structural steel frame with expansive glass facades, large openings in the floor and skylight at roof level, and open floor plans to accommodate main level retail and lounge, upper level office, and the potential for a future rooftop patio.
